Idk, I sure prefer Germany / Japan circa 2026 to Germany / Japan circa 1936. The last time the US did something similar was in Panama in 1989, and that country seems to be a thriving democracy now. Too early to know how this will play out, but things are more nuanced than you're suggesting.

A key difference is that we didn't act alone in World War II, and we were fighting very legitimate aggression (fascism).
