Inkscape launches version 1.3 with a focus on organizing work efficiently (inkscape.org)

Inkscape is rapidly becoming an interesting project to follow. Martin Owens has been very active in doing outreach and reporting work, giving a lot of insights into what is happening beyond the changelog posts.

As a general-purpose app it still has a lot of deficiencies where some kinds of workflows, especially larger projects, die to papercut issues, but it's in a good place for logo graphics, bitmap tracing, and SVG-specific formatting tasks.

You can draw in it, and the performance in 1.3 is better, but there are some odd things to drawing that can be discouraging - essentially the calligraphy tool is the only one that's really great for freehand drawing, the others suffer from stuff that is known and already on the issue tracker, but definitely land in the "death by papercuts" camp - not bad if you use an occasional straight line, but obnoxious to edit hundreds.
