Former employees at the deceased Silicon Valley Bank blame a combination of remote work, an over-focus on social issues, and a lack of risk management for the bank's collapse.
The only one of those that accounts for failure is risk management. Last year I was working for Bank of America and there inclusion and diversity are critical to the culture of the company as a first principle. That has not crashed Bank of America and neither has remote work. Bank of America is obsessive over risk management though. Their positive reputation is their primary asset and applied all manners and levels of business operations. Strangely, though, I didn't see much risk management in software development and so much of their internal software struck me as fragile.
If there is anything that killed SVB its the culture of silicon valley playing loose and fast with finances to reach high risk high reward payouts. Being woke isn't a factor.
If they are talking about treating employees and customers good regardless of their pronouns, dress attire, quirks, etc... then I'm on board. If it's anything beyond that it is a waste of time.
