But I experience this almost every time I enter the door to my own home after being away for more than 6 hours. I won't have any inkling of feeling prior to entering, but as soon as I do.... 15 seconds later I know where I'm now headed. Edit: My home is not a bookstore, but I do have a non-trivial personal library in my front room. Coincidence?

That's probably just a habit. It's the same for me when I enter the bathroom in the evening before going to sleep.
