Libertarianism is always unpopular if people are afraid. And I believe many are very afraid now.

That said, I believe it is insufficient to only have this perspective, but of course that changes from person to person.

Expanding the law to disallow corporate surveillance would be almost too trivial. But nobody did it because they smelled it might lead to advantages.
