Agree, it’s pretty bad. From what I can tell the kubeflow community is light on devops people and heavy on data people who are playing infrastructure engineers.

Although part of the problem is kustomize which is a Google product.

google lost interest in kubeflow a while ago, the developers mostly left and now it's on autopilot.
