I wonder if we could end up in a situation where solar and wind power kills traditional generation but still isn't able to provide continuous power. That we might end up with intermittent power by accident.
I personally am seeing 2 distinct systems.
1. Outside the cities people will have their own storage and power generation.
2. Inside the cities power companies start renting out batteries when you contract with them. And they only provider the power with solar and the battery they provide stores it for the nights and sun less days.
