I believe they figured out a way to dry stack the blocks but they are still testing I believe. CLT seems like best building material for going past three stories

how accurate?

Assuming GP is talking RTK GNSS[0] it can be down to cm accurate with good techniques.

GNSS can technically get down to mm accuracy but that typically requires static sites with lots of data.

sub-centimeter with RTK enabled. The device has an onboard cellular modem to receive atmospheric corrections

matt risinger features precut lumber packages. it still exists for custom builds but generally tract homes are built as simply as possible. It does feel like buying a plan online should come with a material package but no one offers this to my knowledge. Home Depot and lowes did catalogues where you would buy the components from them out of a book

there isn't much accountability for waste in construction and wood has been cheap compared to other costs

this is a big deal, getting a project to pencil with GC construction costs for the owner/developer and ideation for the architect is a big win

I think there are a few niches for construction that haven't been solved, CLT and CMU can go up 16 stores and should be able to deliver "infinite" apartment buildings

european companies will build prefab exterior enclosure to retrofit old construction without displacing residents https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S03787...

New construction:

Integrated Project Delivery - AI could solve the problem of aligning stakeholders possibly

Applying scrum/lean to construction -

BIM - there is a lot of data in a building and BIM standards are putting everything into one file,

digital twins: lidar and cameras and ai are all getting better where high accuracy scans can create as built digital twins while referencing BIM file to build it.

lifecycle analysis and building automation: precooling and preheating spaces, I believe we should have better rubric for valuing existing properties eg a window is an asset and a liability (many owners do not account for replacement costs leading to buildings in disrepair)

skilled labor - mixed reality education: if there is a digital twin then worker could use augmented reality to see preferred methods to make that happen while being credentialed and upskilling (crazy brick facades become possible)

Hadrian robot competitors: crane placing concrete blocks autonomously

I live on a street that is an arterial in Oklahoma. Generally in tulsa people drive 45-50mph on our grid (major streets every mile). I had to have a 125cc scooter to keep up with traffic. Even on an e-bike going 25mph I had people trying to run me off the road if I used the full lane.

I am seriously wondering if we just need to setup camera speed traps and red light cameras to solve this and fund better human scaled infrastructure. Imagine trying to cross one of these streets where there isn’t a crosswalk for a half mile

GPT4 rules seem too narrow so competition is going to be insane.

Are hacker news folks creating an AI constitution?

> Are hacker news folks creating an AI constitution?

Nonsense, just have the AI generate it.

We, the unpeople, in order to form a more perfect union…

boolean union?

Love to see adoption of living building challenge even if it is their least rigorous certification.

tl;dr but think I will read the whole thing later.

"Planning is a component of politics. There is no escaping that truism."

homogeneity is the false assumption behind many issues. a personal favourite is the pilot seat designed for the average man that fit no-one

"Wicked problems are unique."

Complex systems deserve time unfortunately political systems are not aligned with time scales neccassary to solve most if not all wicked problems
